COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY

Texans for a Secure Democracy is a bipartisan organization of concerned citizens who vigorously support the Constitution of the United States, democracy, and human rights. We focus on candidate and election information and we encourage broad based civic engagement. We welcome members of all parties and independents.

Our Goals

EDUCATION

Educate ourselves and other citizens about upcoming elections, candidates, and propositions to be voted on.

Equality

Promote equality, inclusion, and diversity in communities, the workplace, and society at large.

INVOLVEMENT

Encourage broader citizen participation in local, county, state, and national government and in public schools.

Media literacy

Support and strengthen independent media outlets, promote media literacy, and fight disinformation.

TSD meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month; be sure to check here for meeting confirmation and details.

Meetings are held at the UH Sugar Land campus at the University Branch Library – Meeting Room 2.

  • 6:00 to 6:30 social
  • 6:30 to 8:00 program and/or meeting
  • 8:00 to 8:15 clean-up

Parking is free only in the gated area in front of the library. Validate your parking ticket at any of the customer service desks inside the library.

The ticket machine is very odd. You have to push on the glass on the front of the machine to get your parking ticket.

WARNING:
Campus security patrols other areas. Cars parked in other areas without permits are ticketed. This is enforced!

  • Professor Michelle Belco of the University of Houston spoke on Presidential Authority: Checks and Balances
  • Social: Fajita Buffet Dinner at Los Tios!
  • Representative Dr. Suleman Lalani, Texas Legislature House District 76 spoke to TDS about his first term in office and issues important to Texans.
  • Election Judge David Gibson spoke on Election Integrity, teaching us of the duties he and poll workers perform.
  • Dr. Jerry Johnson, professor at UH Downtown, discussed how to have productive political conversations with friends and Family
  • The Work and Jurisdiction of the County Commissioner’s Office: with guest speakers Ali Hasanali, Chief of Staff from Office of Fort Bend County, and, Commissioner Dexter McCoy, Precinct 4
  • Judge Christian Becerra, 434th District Court, spoke on hot button issues in court: sentencing, bond reform and backlog/time to trial
  • 3 Speaker Panel: Candidate Fred Taylor, for Fort Bend Democratic Chair. Neeta Sane, Taxpayers’ Coalition. Calista Herbert, PAVE political action group.
